AMP 2011 Tryouts

Hi AMP recruits! This spring we’re looking forward to combining our core of returning players with newcomers eager to play as a fun, hardworking team. Talent is important, but team-oriented players our priority.

New players are welcome to join team workouts on Saturday April 9th and 23rd. AMP’s primary tryouts will take place at Saturday practices on May 7th and 21st, with late tryouts June 4th. If you’re interested in the team, but unable to make this schedule please let us know. Cuts and feedback on roles will continue through June with final roster determination following Boston Invite.

If you have questions, want more information or to join our listserve, email “captains at phillyamp dot com” and give us some idea of your background playing ultimate. All workouts and practices will take place in Philadelphia’s Fairmount Park. Can’t wait.

AMP 2010

Sarasota! AMP’s 2010 season came to a close at the USA Ultimate Club Championships with some great team spirit and individual efforts, but room to improve on our 12th place finish. We are already looking forward to next season, but thought we’d recap the action in Florida once more as well.

Regional Champs

AMP’s total team effort brought 4 terrific victories in Upperville and the Mid Atlantic Regional Championship! Petter, Raha, Kenny, Jesse and Truskin were recognized as the weekend’s outstanding players. Preparations are now well underway for another run at Nationals.

Congrats to fellow Philly teams Southpaw and Blue Route for their 2nd and 3rd place Regional finishes in open and womens.

Chesapeake and Sectionals

AMP worked hard to break through at Chesapeake, but lost 2 universe point games in Maryland. The team refocused for Sectionals, showed off our new uniforms, and played an outstanding team tournament for 6 wins in New Jersey. Looking forward to the hard work ahead for Regionals!

Philly Invite

3-4 weekend performance at our home tournament provided good insight into where we need to focus most at practice.  The tournament ran well thanks to the terrific volunteer efforts of several vets. Looking forward to a few more practices and then Chesapeake and Sectionals as AMP 2010 starts to take its final shape.

Worlds in Prague

After qualifying as the 5th place team at 2009 UPA Club Nationals, AMP traveled with a 17-person roster to Prague for the 2010 World Club Championships. The team enjoyed a great week playing opponents from Brazil, Spain, Austria, England, New Zealand, Australia, Canada and the United States. After losing in quarters to eventual champions Chad Larson Experience, AMP finished 7th overall, proud of our performance representing Philadelphia at our first international tournament.

Season Debut at Boston Invite

AMP traveled to Fort Devens, MA on June 26-27 for our first tournament with this year’s team. Building consistency throughout the weekend we finished 4th overall after 4 wins and 3 losses. AMP showed great mental toughness in several games, including a terrific 2nd half comeback that fell just short on universe point against RIP in our final match. Looking forward to our next full team event in Allentown, PA for July’s Philly Invite.

Tryouts Progressing

AMP’s seen over 50 people come out for the 2010 team. A few more are expected, but we’re beginning to concentrate on developing this year’s group now. Looking forward to June practices, parties and two great early season tests at Boston and Philly Invite.
